Distressing Wood

I have had more than a few ask me about how I distress wood. For those who don’t know what this means, it means making wood look old, or ‘Distressed.’ You will find that it is much easier than it sounds.

This is an example from Pixabay. For those who don’t it it’s an excellent place for stock images.

So onto the sign. You can tell it’s distressed because it’s scratched up, has different colors, and the border seems worse than the rest.

For this one I bought a cheap laminate cabinet from Goodwill and changed it into something exciting (if you like the sea).

As with any sea theme, I applied multiple layers of greens and blues, along with blacks, browns, and white.

You can see how the corners and edges are worse than the rest.

I also took a hatchet and cut up different parts of it to make it look worse.

Overall I’m happy with how it came out. It now serves as storage for my wiring.
