This was my second major project after The Spider.
The theme of the year was pumpkins, so my thoughts around this was after the move Pumpkinhead. His job in the Haunt was to protect the field and the creatures within it.
I learned a lot from building this. I had it outside because I thought I waterproofed it, but it didn’t work. It was a bit resistant but in the end I had to place it under a cover.
To be honest, I still struggle with waterproofing. I read so many articles and tried to follow what they did, but I didn’t get the results they had. Doesn’t stop me from trying.
Short How-To
Since it was going to be tall (ended up around 7 feet), I built a base to hold it and ran the ‘legs’ through it.
The structure is PVC pipes. I used a heat gun to bend the arms and rib cage. Don’t do that inside unless you want a headache.
I used newspaper, cardboard or anything of the sort so bulk it up, then duct taped it all together.
After that I made paper mache using wood glue and that thick brown paper you can find at a department store. Followed that up with numerous coats of exterior black paint + primer. You need to make sure to get it in all the cracks. Anything left exposed will let water in.
Finally, I put a light inside the head and mounted it.
